Prof. Marc Gelkopf
Marc Gelkopf is full Professor at the Community Mental Health Department
at the University of Haifa and of The Center for Community Mental Health
Research, Practice and Policy.
Marc Gelkopf has set up and led a number of training for youth undergoing
stressful and traumatic conditions (Erase-stress intervention programs).
Many of these interventions, usually in the format of ‘Training the Trainers)
were accompanied by well set up research projects both in Israel (Sderot,
Ofakim, Beer Sheba etc..), as well as in Disaster areas outside of Israel
(Senegal, Haiti, Sri Lanka, France etc..). Trainings are often done in schools,
but also in the community where needed. Marc has also been co-responsible
for staff trainings in large scale projects such as the Israeli National
Psychiatric Routine Outcome Monitoring Project (8 years, 21000 yearly
assessments) as well as the setting up and assessment of numerous RCT’s
(including outdoor programs for local Vets suffering from chronic PTSD).
Marc Gelkopf has published more than 140 peer-reviewed articles in the
professional literature (some in high impact factor journals such as JAMA) on
issues such as stress and trauma (children, youth, adults and older
populations), drug misuse (especially as related to individuals with co-
occurring mental health problems) and psychiatric rehabilitation. He has
obtained numerous grants for the above-mentioned projects (ISF, BSF, Social
Security, Ministry of Health etc..).
